Rammed Earth House in Castleton, Ontario

Ontario's first insulated rammed earth home is set into an east facing hill near Castleton, Ontario.

To capture more light, the east and west portions of the building were pulled apart, allowing the central double height space to extend above the roof.

The house uses approx. 20kW/h/m2 to heat annually.  That's the equivalent of 20 tea candles. The thermal mass of building ensures that air conditioning is not required.
